Silver to Bronze: A Marvel Comics Podcast
”Silver to Bronze: A Marvel Comics Podcast” is a journey through Marvel’s Silver and Bronze Age comics, revisited with fresh eyes. Co-hosts Tony and Scott grew up with stories from this era, but many of the early issues remain unread territory for them. Each episode explores their impressions—both from when they first encountered these comics and how they see them now, decades later. Unlike many discussions that analyze comics through a modern lens, this podcast is about experiencing these stories as they were, appreciating their original context, and discovering what still resonates today. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to these classic issues, join Tony and Scott as they dive into Marvel’s past with curiosity, nostalgia, and a bit of humor.

29: Nick Fury and Steranko’s Spy-Fi Revolution
Wednesday Sep 24, 2025
Wednesday Sep 24, 2025
This week Scott and I go behind the shadows of Nick Fury’s earliest missions. From his Strange Tales run to the first five issues of Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., we explore the shift from Kirby’s bold setups to Steranko’s psychedelic, boundary-pushing art. Steranko turned spy comics into something no one had seen before, and we couldn’t resist geeking out over every detail. Of course, we tip our hats to Jack Kirby, because where Fury goes, Kirby usually isn’t far behind.

From misunderstood monster to cornerstone of Marvel’s lineup, we look at how the character struggled to find his footing and how those early stories shaped the Hulk we know today (a.k.a. the 1980s).

In this episode of Silver to Bronze, Scott and I revisit one of Spider-Man’s most iconic early arcs: “If This Be My Destiny…” from Amazing Spider-Man #31–33. These three issues, crafted by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, showcase a pivotal turning point in the character’s history. While a Silver Age story, it set the stage for the emotional depth and heroic grit that would define Spider-Man throughout the Bronze Age.
We talk about Ditko’s masterful art and panel storytelling, the layered pacing of Peter Parker’s struggles, and the unforgettable “lifting sequence” that remains one of the most powerful moments in Marvel history. These issues blew us away and there is no wondering why this arc still resonates with readers more than half a century later.

This week, Scott and I are talking about one of our favorites from back in the day, ROM the Spaceknight. ROM might have started as a toy tie-in, but for us it became something much more. Join us as we revisit the battles with the Dire Wraiths, the cosmic themes, Scott’s obsession with Galactus’ eyes, and why this series still holds such a special place in our comic-loving hearts.

22: The Fantastic Four: First Steps – Marvel’s First Family Gets a New Start
Sunday Aug 03, 2025
Sunday Aug 03, 2025
This week, Scott and I step away from the comics to talk about the new movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s a rare thing for us to focus on a film, but this one got our attention. Consider this your spoiler alert. The only real spoiler might be that there’s no Impossible Man!
If you’ve seen the movie, come hang out with us for a laid-back conversation about Marvel’s first family: Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (the Thing), who proves once again that you can take the guy out of Yancy Street, but not Yancy Street out of the guy.

21: Secrets, Clones, and Confusion: Amazing Spider-Man 141-150
Sunday Jul 27, 2025
Sunday Jul 27, 2025
This week, Scott and I take on one of the most talked-about storylines from the Bronze Age of Spider-Man. We’re looking at Amazing Spider-Man issues 141 to 150, which mark the beginning of what would later become known as the Clone Saga. These stories originally ran fifty years ago in 1975 and shocked readers with the apparent return of Gwen Stacy, a character whose death had already become a defining moment for both Peter Parker and Marvel Comics as a whole. Grab a beer, light up a cigar and hang with us as we finally get around to talking proper Peter Parker/Spider-man!
